Who We Are

Overview of Nipissing Transition House

..."If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it."
- Margaret Fuller...

The doors of Nipissing Transition House opened on January 19, 1984, and we have been moving forward one woman, one child, one family, one initiative, one school… at a time towards our goal of wiping out relationship violence in Nipissing District. We hope that with each step, we work to eliminate relationship violence in your family, your community, our world.

Nipissing Transition House could not move forward with this aspiration without the dedication and resolve of the following individuals:

  • The Crisis Resource Counsellors, who work around the clock to the meet the crisis needs of women fleeing for safety and needing support. They do this with respect and dignity, while creating a safe 'home' for women and their children.
  • Women’s Outreach staff who assist women as they move from their abusive relationship and/or the shelter into violence free lives, who support and empower women on their healing journey.
  • The Child and Youth Advocate who provides laughter and compassion to the lives of hundreds of children impacted by violence and who supports Moms as they work to bring security and stability to their children.
  • The Outreach Child and Youth Counsellor who spreads the message of self-awareness, self-responsibility and anti-violence to children in need.
  • Relief staff who stand in when others can’t.
  • The Financial Manager who is a presence in the shelter beyond the fiscal.
  • The Executive Director whose vision of a community free from violence guides and inspires us.
  • Our volunteer Board of Directors who take time from their own lives to represent the perspectives of our community.
  • The generous and supportive community of North Bay that stands with us and contributes to our goals through donations, participation in shelter initiatives and thoughtfulness.
