What is Abuse?

Abuse is an attempt to control the behaviour, thoughts and feelings of another person. It is a misuse of power which uses the foundations of the relationship: trust, intimacy, and dependency, to make the person being abused vulnerable and unsafe. It can come in different forms, including: physical, emotional, sexual, financial or spiritual.

If you are unsure whether you are in an abusive relationship, please talk to someone to help figure it out. Part of the abuse works to make the victim feel as though they are responsible for what is happening to them. Talking to someone who understands can help.
